Overview
We are recruiting for a Clinical Nurse Manager to join our team as part of our partnership with University Hospitals Plymouth. This will be a site-based role and will involve working across Derriford Hospital and Mount Gould Hospital.
Hours: 30 hours per week
Contract: 12 months fixed term (maternity cover). Secondments available.
Salary: £47,810 – £54,710 per annum (pro rata), in line with NHS Agenda for Change (AFC). Plus, full range of Marie Curie benefits, including enhancements for out of hours working.

As a Clinical Nurse Manager, you will provide strategic and clinical leadership to a defined team within the Marie Curie Hospital Nursing Service. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring the delivery of high-quality palliative care within an acute or inpatient setting, supporting patients and their families through complex end-of-life journeys.
You will oversee service development, workforce planning, and quality assurance within the hospital environment, while also managing safeguarding investigations and clinical incidents. This senior leadership position offers significant scope for professional development and influence.
You’ll work closely with hospital leadership teams, specialist consultants, discharge coordinators, and other key stakeholders to shape inpatient services and identify opportunities for innovation and growth. We’re seeking someone who is passionate about advancing hospital-based palliative care and committed to continuous improvement within a forward-thinking charity.

Responsibilities
- Provide strategic and clinical leadership to a defined team within the Marie Curie Hospital Nursing Service.
- Ensure delivery of high-quality palliative care within an acute or inpatient setting.
- Oversee service development, workforce planning, and quality assurance in the hospital environment.
- Manage safeguarding investigations and clinical incidents.
- Collaborate with hospital leadership teams, specialist consultants, discharge coordinators, and other stakeholders to shape inpatient services and identify opportunities for innovation and growth.
- Lead with compassion, clinical excellence, and purpose while supporting staff development.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse on NMC Register
- Relevant Nursing Degree
- Recent experience in health settings and management of nursing/clinical teams
- Experience caring for patients with palliative care needs (hospice/hospital/community)
- Up-to-date knowledge of current palliative care issues
- Able to plan, delegate, schedule and prioritise own workload and that of others within a changing environment
- Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, e.g. negotiating, persuasion and coaching
- Ability to remain calm under pressure
- Willingness to travel and occasionally make overnight stays
