The role will suit a junior mechanical design engineer looking for an opportunity to develop their career within a fast-paced organisation at the cutting edge of engine design and development.
You will be involved in:
- Concept design, development of hydrogen, diesel and potentially hybrid engine and powertrain systems and components from concept to launch.
- Ensuring robust system/component regulations, quality, cost and timing requirements are met.
Working within a dynamic engineering team, you will be involved in end-to-end mechanical design engineering activities (research, concept, 3D design) relating to full engine systems design - Transmissions, cooling, axles, connections, crankshaft, pistons, valvetrain, fuel systems, etc. You will:
- Support manufacturing and service teams in resolving complex technical issues leading to engineering change.
- Create clean sheet concept designs from first principles.
- Plan and execute Proof-of-Concept assessments either through test, and/or first principle analysis and simulation.
- Support product development, ensuring design for assembly (DFA) and achieving quality in design.
- Create engine system and component specifications and designs based on agreed requirements.
Skills / knowledge required:
- This role would suit an engineer with at least 2-3 years of industry experience gained within a similar design role working on relevant applications (e.g. engines, powertrain systems, transmissions, etc).
- A degree in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering or similar coupled with a sound understanding of Mechanical Engineering principles (dynamics, thermal, fluids, stress, materials, etc).
- Good industry experience in the design of dynamic, moving/rotating equipment: engines, machinery, transmissions, powertrain, motors, robotics, complex mechanisms, aeroengines, etc. – dynamic components and systems.
- Ability to work well under pressure and to meet deadlines with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely at all levels.
