This role would suit an experienced and highly technical mechanical design engineer with a proven track record of designing and delivering complex, high-volume products into the automotive market. The company is involved with the design and production of innovative electric vehicle powertrain systems incorporating HV electrical systems and electric motor systems.
As a principal engineer you will be a technical lead; guiding and mentoring more junior engineers on engineering best practices and enabling the smooth delivery of products from concept to series production.
The role will require:
- Demonstrable experience and technical competence in the design of complex high-volume products for the automotive industry (concept to series production)
- Experience in HV electromechanical systems (e.g. EV propulsion / powertrain systems such as electric motors, inverter / converters, battery systems, OBCs) alternatively chassis systems (e.g. brakes, steering or potentially HEV / ICE powertrain components)
- Experience of problem solving, CAE (simulation and validation), cost reduction and DFM/DFA principals
As well as offering guidance and support, you will play an important role in mechanical design decisions, will be hands-on with design, analysis and supporting products through prototype, validation and NPI phases.

- A degree in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering or similar coupled with strong practical mechanical design and analysis experience (use of Solidworks, Creo, CATIA or similar)
- Proven high-volume automotive product design experience (essential) having taken complex products from concept to series production
- Experience in HV electromechanical systems (e.g. EV propulsion / powertrain systems such as electric motors, inverter / converters, battery systems, OBCs) alternatively chassis systems (e.g. brakes, steering or potentially HEV / ICE powertrain components)
- Experience of problem solving, CAE (simulation and validation), cost reduction and DFM/DFA principals
- Well versed in mechanical design best practice including 3D solid modelling and 2D design, including, DFM, GD&T, BOMs
- Able to technically lead projects and teams of mechanical design engineers
- Experience with the design of electric motors would be ideal. Otherwise other high volume and complex systems could be considered: E.g. Transmissions, gear systems, bearings, reciprocating engine components, fuel pumps, etc.
- Having taken products through to production, a broad understanding of metallic or plastic material selection and production processes would be expected.
