This Senior Mechanical Test Development Engineer role is to support the development, testing and validation of innovative hydrogen and diesel engine systems. This is a “hands-on” Development engineer role where you will be responsible for writing and developing engine validation and verification tests, specifying and designing appropriate test procedures, building and setting up test equipment, carrying out engine testing, analysis of collected data and producing the necessary reports and documentation.
As Senior Development Engineer you will lead and deliver sizable test packages, guide & mentor the team and manage external test resources.
- Write, design and define mechanical test procedures to prove out failure modes and validate engine, powertrain and propulsion systems - hydrogen/diesel/gasoline/gas engine, propulsion, after treatment systems - Power conversion, Lubrication system, Cooling system, CCV system, Valve train, Air path, Rotating electrics, Front end accessory drive (FEAD), NVH, Strain gauge measurement etc.
- Set up and design of dynamometer and rig based engine tests, specification of instrumentation, test planning, test automation and data logging.
- Analyse and report powertrain test data and make appropriate diagnosis and recommendations on trends, solutions and improvements.
Degree qualified or equivalent in mechanical engineering. Strong Test & Development skills across any of the following: powertrain, hydrogen/diesel/gasoline/gas engines, propulsion systems, batteries, pumps, motors, downhole O&G systems, heavy rotating equipment, generators, aerospace, automotive, marine etc. The ideal candidate will have good knowledge of a product development environment and be very practically minded.
In addition to carrying out tests, you should have the ability to prepare, create and design test & validation specifications, analyse test data and issue reports to the wider team. Background in designing dynamometer and rig-based tests ideal - specification of instrumentation, test planning, test automation, data logging.
You will need to have a strong analytical mind to understand and compile data, create tests but also hands-on in building test equipment and supporting experiments. Fault tree analysis / FMEA / practical problem solving.
