A prestigious private household in Oxfordshire is seeking an experienced House Manager to oversee the day-to-day running of a substantial private estate. The principals are open to considering either a single House Manager or a domestic couple, provided one partner has strong House Manager experience.
This role would suit an experienced House Manager, Estate Manager or Senior Housekeeper with strong operational, organisational and people management skills. Candidates must be comfortable in a hands-on House Manager role and willing to support the wider household team when required.
The successful House Manager will act as the central point of contact for all aspects of household management, ensuring the estate operates efficiently whilst maintaining exceptional standards throughout. The House Manager will work closely with the principals, family office and wider support team whilst managing household staff, contractors and suppliers. This is a rare opportunity for a House Manager to join a beautifully country estate with beautiful gardens and grounds.
House Manager Responsibilities will include:
- Managing the day-to-day operation of the private household and estate
- Acting as the primary point of contact for all household matters
- Leading household management across the main residence, guest accommodation and estate buildings
- Managing household staff including housekeepers, chefs and future household hires
- Recruiting, training and developing members of the household team
- Managing freelancers, contractors and specialist service providers
- Coordinating maintenance projects, repairs and minor renovations
- Obtaining quotes and ensuring best value from suppliers and contractors
- Managing household budgets and accounts in collaboration with the Family Office
- Maintaining household manuals, inventories, records and operating procedures
- Overseeing household purchasing, supplies and stock management
- Managing travel logistics, packing and unpacking for the principals
- Overseeing wardrobe management and seasonal storage
- Ensuring excellent care of the family dogs and future estate animals
- Managing valuable art, antiques and design pieces throughout the property
- Supporting guest stays, retreats and private entertaining
- Working closely with the London House Manager and wider support network
The ideal House Manager will have:
- Proven experience as a House Manager, Estate Manager, Household Manager or Senior Housekeeper within a private household
- Strong experience managing household staff and contractors
- Excellent organisational and project management skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and high personal standards
- A hands-on approach to household management
- Strong leadership and people management abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Confidence using Outlook, Excel, Word, Google Workspace, Dropbox and household technology systems
- Experience managing household budgets, inventories and maintenance schedules
- A proactive and solutions-focused mindset
- An appreciation for sustainability, organic living and environmentally conscious household management
- A genuine interest in nature, gardens and beautifully run homes
- A full UK driving licence
