Marcilly Recruitment’s client, an UHNW family in Notting Hill, is seeking an experienced Butler / Senior Housekeeper who must have extensive guest facing experience. This role will be part of a lovely, fully staffed household with great employers and a collaborative and welcoming team. The Butler / Senior Housekeeper will be provided with their own one bedroom flat for exclusive use within a five to ten minute walk of the principal's. Therefore, it is classed as a live-in role.
It is a very busy household with lots of visitors for both work and social, so this is a newly created role to meet and greet visitors and offer them exceptional levels of hospitality. You will then also work with the rest of the housekeeping team to ensure the smooth running of the household.
This is working five days a week on a rota system. You will always get two consecutive days off in a row, but you won’t always know this until a week in advance. The weekend work will be shared between the two other live-in staff. The family like to entertain so the successful Butler / Senior Housekeeper will be on hand to help ensure events run smoothly and working with any external staff to manage and coordinate duties.
The family would like to see longevity with the successful Butler / Senior Housekeeper’s CV. They have amazing staff retention rates and value long-term employees. UHNW household experience. The Butler / Senior Housekeeper must have prior experience as a housekeeper either in private households, luxury hospitality or superyachts.
Salary: £45K - £60K depending on experience
Hours: 08:00 – 20:00 with breaks in the day

Exceptionally high standards are essential for this role and good attention to detail. It is a fairly relaxed / semi-formal household with a good team environment, so it is non-hierarchical. The UHNW client is seeking a Butler / Senior Housekeeper who will muck in and act as a team player.
The ideal Butler / Senior Housekeeper will have some experience with silver service / butler type duties.
The family includes two children (12 & 10) and two dogs. The household is made up of a Private PA & House Manager (one person), 2 drivers, a chef, 5 housekeepers, a live-in nanny and a live-out governess.
Butler / Senior Housekeeper key requirements:
- Previous experience in a guest facing role, whether that be working as a Butler in luxury hospitality or a private household
- Attention to detail and proactive.
- Housekeeping experience.
- Must be flexible to the job at hand, mucking in across the household.
- Hands on with a great energy and team-player attitude.
- Must be discreet and trustworthy, and help maintain these qualities throughout the team.
- Must be well presented and maintain a professional manner at all times.
Butler / Senior Housekeeper duties include:
- Hands-on housekeeping – cleaning, laundry and ironing to the highest standards.
- Meeting and greeting household visitors.
- Training, onboarding and mentoring of other housekeepers.
- Making drinks and refreshments or working closely with the chef to do so.
- Silver service Keeping a keen eye on the household and any maintenance required. Must be very hot on this.
- Wardrobe management and care of fine garments, shoes and handbags – organising any specialist cleaning.
- Preparing the house for any guests and catering for their needs to ensure they have an enjoyable stay.
- Organising deep cleaning of the property at the appropriate times.
- Plant & flower care – keeping fresh supplies.
- Maintaining fine furniture, caring for antiques, artwork, specialist high end surfaces and glassware.
- Assisting with events, setting, serving and clearing the table when needed.
- Working with the Private PA to ensure the house runs like clockwork.
