A welcoming primary school in Watford is looking to appoint an energetic Year 1 Teacher to start January 2026. This Year 1 Teacher will plan and deliver an ambitious Year 1 curriculum that secures rapid progress in phonics, early reading, writing and number. The successful Year 1 Teacher will join a close-knit phase team with experienced teaching assistants and strong leadership support.

The Year 1 Teacher will design imaginative sequences of lessons, use assessment to adapt provision and lead small-group work that targets pupils’ next steps. This role requires a Year 1 Teacher who can build strong relationships with pupils and parents, maintain high expectations for behaviour and learning, and contribute to a positive classroom culture. The appointment will commence January 2026, with induction and planning taking place in the weeks leading into January 2026, so the Year 1 Teacher can hit the ground running.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead phonics sessions, early reading activities and structured number work.
  • Use assessment information to set clear targets and run successful interventions.
  • Work collaboratively with TAs and phase leaders to ensure consistency across Year 1.

  • Qualified teacher with evidence of effective classroom practice in early primary.
  • Secure subject knowledge in phonics, reading and early mathematics.
  • Strong classroom management, organisational ability and a reflective approach to teaching.
  • Commitment to the school’s ethos, team working and professional development.
  • Available to start January 2026 and based in or able to travel to Watford.
