School Information

An established independent school in Winchester is seeking a professional and highly organised HR and Recruitment Administrator to support its Human Resources function. The school is committed to recruiting talented staff and maintaining a supportive working environment for its teaching and operational teams.

The successful candidate will join a busy administrative department and work closely with HR colleagues, senior leaders, line managers and prospective employees. The role will be important in ensuring that recruitment processes are efficient, staff records are accurate and employment documentation is handled confidentially.

This opportunity would suit someone with strong administrative skills who enjoys working with people and is interested in developing their career within HR and education.

The Role

The HR and Recruitment Administrator will provide comprehensive administrative support throughout the employee lifecycle, from advertising vacancies and arranging interviews to maintaining staff records and assisting with onboarding.

Responsibilities will include preparing job advertisements, processing applications, coordinating interview schedules and communicating with candidates about recruitment arrangements. The postholder will liaise with hiring managers to ensure that vacancies progress efficiently and that relevant documentation is completed.

A key responsibility will be supporting pre-employment checks in accordance with the school's safeguarding and recruitment procedures. This will include helping coordinate references, verifying required documentation and monitoring the progress of checks before appointments are confirmed. The successful candidate will maintain accurate records and ensure that outstanding requirements are followed up promptly.

The role will also involve updating the HR database, preparing employment paperwork, assisting with induction arrangements and maintaining personnel files. The postholder may support absence administration, staff changes, training records and routine HR reporting.

Confidentiality and attention to detail will be essential, as the role involves handling personal and employment-related information. The successful candidate will need to communicate professionally with applicants and staff, respond to routine queries and ensure that administrative deadlines are met.

The HR and Recruitment Administrator will also help review administrative processes, identify opportunities to improve record-keeping and support the smooth running of the wider HR function.

Requirements

Applicants should have previous experience in administration, recruitment or human resources. Strong organisational skills, excellent written and verbal communication and confidence using Microsoft Office are essential.

Candidates should be able to manage multiple tasks, maintain accurate records and handle confidential information with discretion. Experience coordinating interviews, maintaining employee databases or supporting recruitment checks would be advantageous.

Experience within a school or another regulated environment would be beneficial, particularly an understanding of safeguarding requirements and the importance of robust recruitment procedures.

What the School Offers

The school offers the opportunity to develop HR and recruitment experience within a professional educational environment. The successful candidate will work with colleagues across the organisation, gain exposure to a broad range of HR processes and contribute to the recruitment and support of school staff.
