Design & Technology Teacher Role in an Independent School

About the Role

The successful candidate will teach Design & Technology across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging lessons that foster creativity, technical expertise, and confident design thinking.

Students follow an ambitious curriculum that includes Product Design, Resistant Materials, design processes, materials technology, and modern manufacturing techniques. You will guide students through the full design cycle, from research and concept development to prototyping, manufacture, testing, and evaluation.

The role also offers the opportunity to contribute to a vibrant programme of enrichment activities, including design competitions, STEM initiatives, engineering projects, and exhibitions that celebrate students' creativity and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach Design & Technology across KS3, KS4, and KS5

  • Deliver engaging practical and theory-based lessons

  • Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level Design & Technology qualifications

  • Develop students' creativity, technical knowledge, and manufacturing skills

  • Maintain outstanding health and safety standards within specialist workshops

  • Assess progress and provide high-quality feedback

  • Contribute to curriculum innovation and departmental development

  • Support design competitions, exhibitions, and wider STEM enrichment

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent teaching qualification

  • Experience teaching Design & Technology at secondary level

  • Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently

  • Strong subject knowledge in Product Design, Resistant Materials, or Engineering

  • Excellent classroom and workshop management skills

Desirable

  • Experience teaching A-Level Design & Technology

  • Experience with CAD/CAM technologies, 3D printing, or digital manufacturing

  • Ability to contribute to engineering, robotics, or STEM enrichment programmes

  • A strong track record of delivering excellent student outcomes
