A high-performing secondary school in Watford, Hertfordshire is looking to appoint an experienced School Business Manager to join its leadership and operations team. This is a broad role covering finance, HR, premises, procurement and compliance, working closely with the Headteacher and senior leadership team to ensure the school has the resources and systems needed to run effectively.

The position would suit an experienced School Business Manager, Operations Manager or senior finance professional looking for a role with genuine responsibility and the opportunity to make an impact.

The Role

  • Managing budgets and monitoring expenditure
  • Preparing financial reports, forecasts and management information
  • Overseeing procurement, contracts and supplier relationships
  • Supporting HR processes, recruitment and staff administration
  • Working with premises teams to ensure the site is safe and well maintained
  • Monitoring health & safety, compliance and statutory requirements
  • Reviewing processes and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency
  • Supporting senior leaders with financial and strategic decisions
  • Managing and developing business support functions
  • Ensuring school resources are used effectively

About You

We're looking for someone with a strong background in school business management, finance or operations, who is confident working with senior leaders and managing a varied workload. Previous experience within a school, academy or MAT would be advantageous, although candidates with relevant experience from the wider public, charity or commercial sectors are also encouraged to apply. You'll be organised, commercially aware and comfortable working both strategically and hands-on. Strong financial understanding, excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships are essential.
