Role: Reception Class Teacher
Location: Hitchin, Hertfordshire
Contract: Full-time, maternity cover
Start Date: January 2027
Salary: MPS/UPS, dependent on experience
A primary school in Hitchin is looking to appoint a Reception Teacher to cover a period of maternity leave. The school is seeking someone who understands early childhood development and can provide a stimulating learning environment for children beginning their formal education.
The Role
Deliver engaging learning experiences in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage.
Plan a balance of adult-led activities and child-initiated learning.
Support early communication, phonics, literacy and mathematical development.
Observe and assess children’s progress against developmental milestones.
Establish positive relationships with families and carers.
Work with early years staff to support children’s wellbeing and school readiness.
The Candidate
Holds QTS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
Has a good understanding of the EYFS framework.
Can create a safe, nurturing and engaging classroom.
Demonstrates patience, creativity and strong communication skills.
