An Outstanding secondary school in Watford, Hertfordshire is looking to appoint an experienced Attendance Officer to join its pastoral and administrative team from September 2026. The role will focus on improving attendance across the school, identifying concerns early and working with students, parents and staff to address barriers to regular attendance. You'll play an important part in helping students stay engaged with their education.

The Role

  • Monitoring daily attendance and punctuality
  • Following up unexplained and persistent absence
  • Contacting parents and carers regarding attendance concerns
  • Identifying patterns and trends using attendance data
  • Supporting individual attendance plans and interventions
  • Maintaining accurate attendance records
  • Preparing reports and information for senior leaders
  • Working closely with pastoral, safeguarding and SEND teams
  • Attending attendance meetings with students and families
  • Liaising with external agencies where appropriate
  • Supporting the school with attendance policies and statutory requirements

About You

We're looking for someone who is organised, confident and comfortable working with students and families. Previous experience as an Attendance Officer would be advantageous, although relevant experience in school administration, pastoral support or safeguarding will also be considered. You'll need excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail and the confidence to have sometimes difficult conversations with parents and carers while remaining professional and supportive.
