Design & Technology Teacher Role in a Community Secondary School

A well-established Community Secondary School in Walsall is seeking to appoint a creative and enthusiastic Design & Technology Teacher to join its successful Technology department from September. About the Role

The successful candidate will teach Design & Technology across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging lessons that inspire creativity, innovation, and technical excellence.

Students follow a broad curriculum covering Product Design, Resistant Materials, engineering principles, design processes, and manufacturing techniques. You will encourage learners to develop practical workshop skills alongside problem-solving, creativity, and confidence in designing and producing high-quality outcomes.

You will play an active role in preparing students for GCSE and A-Level examinations while contributing to curriculum development and wider STEM and design enrichment opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach Design & Technology across KS3, KS4, and KS5

  • Deliver engaging practical and theory-based lessons

  • Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level qualifications

  • Develop students' design, manufacturing, and evaluation skills

  • Ensure safe working practices within specialist workshops

  • Assess progress and provide high-quality feedback

  • Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development

  • Support STEM projects, design competitions, and extracurricular activities

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Experience teaching Design & Technology at secondary level

  • Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently

  • Strong subject knowledge in Product Design, Resistant Materials, or Engineering

  • Excellent classroom and workshop management skills

Desirable

  • Experience teaching A-Level Design & Technology

  • Knowledge of CAD/CAM technologies and modern manufacturing processes

  • Experience leading STEM or engineering enrichment activities

  • A strong track record of securing excellent student outcomes
