This is a full-time, permanent position and an exciting opportunity to become part of a school where academic excellence sits alongside genuine care for students and staff.

English is a highly valued subject within the school. Students enjoy reading, debating ideas and developing their writing, and the department plays a central role in helping them become thoughtful, articulate and confident young people. Whether exploring Shakespeare, analysing modern literature or encouraging creative writing, our English teachers inspire students to think deeply and communicate effectively.

You will be joining a collaborative team who genuinely enjoy working together, sharing ideas and supporting one another. The department has a strong track record of success, but equally important is the enthusiasm and passion that teachers bring into the classroom every day.

About the Role

You will teach English Language and Literature across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the opportunity to teach Key Stage 5 depending on experience and interest.

We are looking for someone who can:

  • Create engaging lessons that bring literature and language to life.
  • Foster a love of reading and develop students' confidence as writers.
  • Challenge students to think critically, express ideas clearly and explore different perspectives.
  • Support learners of all abilities to make excellent progress.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school through clubs, enrichment opportunities and school events.

This is a school in Trowbridge where creativity, collaboration and high expectations go hand in hand. Students are eager to learn, behaviour is excellent and staff are trusted to innovate and share best practice.

Who We're Looking For

You may be an Early Career Teacher looking for exceptional support and mentoring, or an experienced teacher seeking a fresh challenge within a successful department.

Above all, we are looking for someone who:

  • Has a passion for English and a love of literature and language.
  • Believes every student can succeed with the right support and challenge.
  • Builds positive relationships with students and colleagues.
  • Brings energy, enthusiasm and creativity to the classroom.
  • Is reflective, ambitious and committed to continuous professional growth.
Why Join Us?

Teaching is demanding, and we believe teachers do their best work when they feel supported, valued and inspired.

We offer:

  • A welcoming and highly collaborative English department.
  • Excellent mentoring and professional development at every stage of your career.
  • Motivated, respectful students who enjoy learning.
  • High-quality resources and modern teaching facilities.
  • A strong commitment to staff wellbeing and work-life balance.
  • Opportunities to develop leadership responsibilities and progress your career.
  • Free on-site parking and excellent staff facilities.

If you're the kind of English teacher who loves seeing students discover a book they can't put down, write something they're proud of, or confidently share their ideas for the first time, we'd love to hear from you.
