Physics Teacher
You would be joining a well-established Science department within an Independent School where Physics is taught through a combination of rigorous academic study, practical investigation and real-world application.
At Key Stage 3, students develop their understanding of forces, energy, electricity, waves, space and the fundamental principles of physical science. Lessons are designed to build confidence while encouraging students to ask questions, investigate ideas and explain their reasoning.
At GCSE, students progress to more advanced topics including energy, forces, electricity, particle models, atomic structure, waves, magnetism and radioactivity. Practical investigation forms an important part of the curriculum, with students expected to interpret results, evaluate methods and apply their understanding to unfamiliar situations.
At A-Level, students are challenged to develop more sophisticated mathematical and analytical skills across mechanics, materials, electricity, waves, fields and particle physics. The course provides excellent preparation for students considering university study and careers in Engineering, Physics, Medicine, Technology and other STEM-related areas.
The department benefits from well-equipped laboratories and dedicated technical support. Students have regular opportunities to undertake practical work, participate in STEM enrichment and engage with university and industry opportunities.
The successful teacher will be encouraged to contribute to the wider life of the department through science clubs, competitions, educational visits and enrichment activities. There is also scope to contribute to curriculum development and support students with applications to competitive university courses.
The school has a collaborative approach to teaching, with colleagues sharing resources, discussing assessment and supporting one another with planning and intervention. Excellent CPD and an established ECT programme are available, alongside opportunities for experienced teachers to develop additional responsibilities.
