You will teach French across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, supporting students through the development of their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. The successful candidate should be confident preparing students for GCSE French and, where appropriate, contributing to post-16 teaching.

French Teacher - The Role

As French Teacher, you will be responsible for:

• Planning and delivering high-quality French lessons

• Teaching French across KS3 and KS4

• Improving students' reading comprehension

• Developing accurate written French

• Teaching grammar and vocabulary systematically

• Identifying gaps in knowledge

• Providing appropriate intervention

• Differentiating lessons for different abilities

French Teacher - Modern Foreign Languages Department

The MFL department aims to develop students who can communicate confidently while also understanding the importance of language learning beyond examination results.

At KS3, students will develop a strong foundation in vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation. Lessons should give students regular opportunities to listen to and use French in meaningful contexts.

At KS4, the focus will become increasingly examination-focused, with students developing the ability to communicate effectively across the GCSE themes and respond accurately in all four skill areas.

The successful candidate should be confident teaching grammar explicitly while also ensuring students have opportunities to use the language practically.

French Teacher - Teaching and Learning

The school wants French lessons to be engaging, structured and purposeful.

You should be able to use a range of teaching approaches to develop students' confidence, including questioning, paired speaking activities, listening exercises, written tasks and retrieval practice.

French Teacher - Experience and Qualifications

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• A degree in French, Modern Languages or a related subject

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

• Experience teaching French at secondary level

• Strong KS3 subject knowledge

• GCSE French teaching experience

• KS5 experience desirable

• Excellent spoken and written French

• Strong grammar knowledge

• Excellent classroom management

• Strong communication skills

• Good organisational skills

• Ability to differentiate effectively

• Genuine enthusiasm for languages
