A supportive and forward-thinking Good-rated school in Suffolk is seeking a talented and enthusiastic Design & Technology ECT for an immediate start. This is an exceptional opportunity for a trainee DT teacher who is passionate about design thinking, hands-on learning, and nurturing creativity in young learners.

You will teach DT across Key Stages 3 and 4, delivering both theoretical and practical elements of the curriculum. The department offers specialisms in Product Design, Resistant Materials, Graphics, and Engineering, and welcomes ECTs who have strong workshop confidence or emerging strengths in CAD/CAM.

With access to modern facilities including 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC tools, and fully resourced workshops, this is an environment where you can quickly develop confidence in facilitating practical learning. ECTs are exceptionally well-supported, receiving structured mentoring, reduced timetable allocation, and regular opportunities to observe experienced DT teachers.

The department works collaboratively, sharing resources, delivering joint CPD sessions, and maintaining a culture in which early career colleagues feel valued, safe, and integrated. The Head of Department takes real pride in supporting new staff and will work closely with you to help you build strong classroom routines, safe workshop practice, and clear instructional presence.

The school itself is known for its calm, positive environment, with behaviour expectations embedded clearly across all year groups. Teachers describe the leadership team as approachable and consistent, with a focus on wellbeing and realistic workload expectations. ECTs here report strong levels of support and a working environment that encourages professional autonomy as confidence grows.

This is an ideal role for a reflective practitioner who is eager to develop their technical pedagogy, contribute to creative projects, and inspire students to think imaginatively about materials, design processes, and applied engineering thinking.
