History Teacher Role in an Oversubscribed Secondary School

A popular and oversubscribed Secondary School in Stoke-on-Trent is seeking to appoint an inspiring and knowledgeable History Teacher to join its successful Humanities department from September. About the Role

The successful candidate will teach History across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging lessons that bring the past to life while developing students' analytical, evaluative, and source-based enquiry skills.

Students study a broad and balanced curriculum spanning British, European, and world history, exploring themes such as monarchy, conflict, migration, political change, and social transformation. You will prepare students for GCSE and A-Level examinations while encouraging them to investigate historical interpretations, evaluate evidence, and construct well-supported arguments.

You will also contribute to the wider Humanities provision through enrichment opportunities including history clubs, educational visits, debating activities, and commemorative events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach History across KS3, KS4, and KS5

  • Deliver engaging and academically challenging lessons

  • Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level examinations

  • Develop students' analytical, evaluative, and extended writing skills

  • Assess progress and provide high-quality feedback

  • Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development

  • Support educational visits and Humanities enrichment activities

  • Promote a passion for history and independent learning

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Experience teaching History at secondary level

  • Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently

  • Strong subject knowledge and passion for History

  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills

Desirable

  • Experience teaching A-Level History

  • Ability to contribute to wider Humanities teaching

  • Experience leading enrichment activities or educational visits

  • A proven track record of securing strong student outcomes
