Food Technology Teacher Role in a Successful Secondary School

A successful and inclusive Secondary School in Stockport is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and innovative Food Technology Teacher to join its thriving Design & Technology faculty from September. About the Role

The successful candidate will teach Food Technology across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging practical and theory lessons that inspire students to develop confidence in food preparation, nutrition, and culinary techniques.

Students explore a broad curriculum covering healthy eating, food science, nutrition, food safety, menu planning, global cuisines, and food production. You will encourage creativity and independence while helping students develop practical skills and an understanding of the relationship between food, health, and sustainability.

You will prepare students for GCSE and A-Level Food Preparation and Nutrition qualifications while contributing to curriculum development and enrichment opportunities such as cooking clubs, enterprise projects, and healthy living initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach Food Technology across KS3, KS4, and KS5

  • Deliver engaging practical and theory-based lessons

  • Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level Food Preparation and Nutrition examinations

  • Develop students' practical cooking skills and nutritional understanding

  • Maintain outstanding food hygiene and health and safety standards

  • Assess progress and provide high-quality feedback

  • Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development

  • Support enrichment activities, competitions, and healthy eating initiatives

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Experience teaching Food Technology at secondary level

  • Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently

  • Strong subject knowledge in Food Preparation and Nutrition

  • Excellent classroom and practical kitchen management skills

Desirable

  • Experience teaching A-Level Food Preparation and Nutrition

  • Knowledge of current nutrition, sustainability, and food industry developments

  • Experience leading cooking clubs or enrichment activities

  • A proven track record of securing excellent student outcomes
