Wayman Education is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher of religious education to join a highly successful humanities department at an exceptional secondary school in Steyning. This full-time position offers an exciting opportunity to teach a well-structured curriculum across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, with the potential to contribute to Key Stage 5 delivery for a suitably qualified candidate.

Key responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality, engaging religious education lessons that inspire students across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.

  • Plan and sequence innovative schemes of work that cater to a wide range of learning abilities using effective adaptive teaching strategies.

  • Assess, track, and report on student progress and attainment in line with exam board specifications, implementing targeted interventions where necessary.

  • Actively contribute to the wider life of the school and the humanities department, including open evenings and extra-curricular initiatives.

  • Maintain high expectations for student behavior and academic achievement, creating a positive, safe, and purposeful learning environment.

Requirements

  • Qualifications: Must hold QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or QTLS, alongside a degree in religious studies, theology, or a closely related discipline.

  • Experience: A proven track record of teaching religious education within a UK secondary school setting (including successful ITT/PGCE placements).

  • Skills: Exceptional subject knowledge across world religions, philosophy, and ethics, confident classroom management techniques, and excellent communication skills.

  • A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
