Wayman Education is seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic, and dedicated teacher of psychology to join a highly successful social sciences department at an exceptional secondary school and sixth form in Steyning. This full-time position offers an exciting opportunity to deliver high-quality, engaging lessons across Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5, taking a leading role in teaching an incredibly popular subject choice at GCSE and A-Level.

Key responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality, engaging psychology lessons that inspire students across GCSE and A-Level specifications.

  • Plan and sequence innovative schemes of work that develop students' understanding of core psychological theories, research studies, and ethical applications.

  • Assess, track, and report on student progress and attainment in line with exam board specifications (such as AQA or Edexcel), implementing targeted interventions where necessary.

  • Actively contribute to the wider life of the school and the department, including sixth form open evenings and subject promotion initiatives.

  • Maintain high expectations for student behavior and academic achievement, creating a positive, safe, and purposeful learning environment.

Requirements

  • Qualifications: Must hold QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or QTLS, alongside a degree in psychology or a closely related social science discipline.

  • Experience: A proven track record of teaching psychology within a UK secondary school or sixth form setting (including successful ITT/PGCE placements).

  • Skills: Exceptional subject knowledge across core topics (such as cognitive, developmental, social psychology, and research methods), confident classroom management techniques, and excellent communication skills.

  • A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
