Role: Teacher of Religious Education (KS3–KS5)
Location: Stevenage, Hertfordshire
Contract: Full-Time, Permanent
Start Date: September 2026
Salary: Highly Competitive

Are you an RE Teacher who enjoys getting students to ask difficult questions, consider different viewpoints and have thoughtful discussions about the world around them?

An outstanding secondary school in Stevenage is looking for an enthusiastic Religious Education Teacher to join its department. They are looking for someone who can make RE interesting and relevant while helping students develop a strong understanding of religion, philosophy, ethics and different perspectives.

You don't need to have every answer. In fact, some of the best RE lessons come from giving students the opportunity to ask questions and work things out for themselves.

The Role

  • Teach Religious Education across KS3–KS5.

  • Introduce students to a range of religious and non-religious worldviews.

  • Develop students' understanding of religious beliefs, practices and traditions.

  • Encourage thoughtful discussion around philosophical and ethical questions.

  • Support GCSE and A-Level students with essays, exam technique and extended responses.

  • Help students understand different perspectives and express their own views clearly and respectfully.

  • Use current affairs, real-world situations, philosophy and ethical dilemmas to make lessons relevant.

  • Contribute to RE clubs, debates, trips and other enrichment opportunities.

  • Create a classroom where students feel comfortable asking questions and discussing challenging ideas.

The Candidate

We're looking for an RE specialist who genuinely enjoys exploring big questions and discussing different perspectives.

A degree in Religious Studies, Theology, Philosophy or a related subject would be desirable. Experience teaching GCSE or A-Level Religious Studies would be an advantage.

You'll need to be confident discussing a wide range of religious and philosophical ideas while remaining respectful and balanced.

Just as importantly, you'll be approachable and encouraging, with the ability to help students develop their own views without simply telling them what to think.

The Environment

You'll be joining a supportive and ambitious department within an outstanding secondary school in Stevenage.

The school values thoughtful discussion, academic curiosity and respectful debate. There are opportunities to become involved in wider activities and to develop professionally alongside experienced colleagues.
