A successful secondary school in Southend-on-Sea is seeking a dedicated and organised Science Technician to join its well-established Science department. This is an exciting opportunity to support practical science education by preparing laboratory resources, maintaining specialist equipment and ensuring students have access to engaging and safe practical learning experiences.

Working alongside an experienced team of science teachers and technicians, you will play a key role in supporting Biology, Chemistry and Physics lessons across the school. Science Department

The Science department is one of the largest and most successful areas within the school, delivering an exciting curriculum across Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Practical investigation forms a central part of learning, and technicians play an essential role in ensuring lessons are delivered safely and efficiently.

As Science Technician, your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing practical equipment and materials for Science lessons.

  • Setting up laboratory experiments across Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

  • Cleaning, maintaining and storing specialist laboratory equipment.

  • Monitoring chemical stock levels and placing orders when required.

  • Ensuring laboratories comply with health and safety regulations.

  • Carrying out routine equipment checks and maintenance.

  • Preparing practical assessments and examination resources.

  • Assisting teaching staff with demonstrations where appropriate.

  • Managing laboratory waste safely and responsibly.

  • Maintaining accurate inventory records.

  • Supporting extracurricular STEM activities and science events.

  • Ensuring practical classrooms remain organised, safe and fully equipped.

Requirements

  • Experience working within a laboratory or school science environment is desirable.

  • Good knowledge of laboratory health and safety procedures.
