Psychology Teaching Role in a Sixth Form School

A successful Sixth Form School in Southampton is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Psychology Teacher to join its thriving Social Sciences department from September. This is a full-time role within a high-achieving and supportive educational environment that places strong emphasis on academic excellence, independent learning, and student progression.

About the Role

You will teach Psychology at Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging and academically rigorous lessons that challenge students and develop their analytical and evaluative skills.

Students will explore key areas including social influence, memory, attachment, psychopathology, biopsychology, research methods, and approaches in psychology. You will support learners in developing strong essay-writing, data analysis, and critical thinking skills while preparing them for GCSE and A-Level examinations.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively within a successful Social Sciences department and contribute to enrichment activities that enhance students’ understanding of psychology beyond the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach Psychology across KS4 and KS5

  • Deliver engaging and academically challenging lessons

  • Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level examinations

  • Develop students’ research, analytical, and evaluative skills

  • Assess student work and provide detailed, constructive feedback

  • Monitor student progress and implement intervention strategies where required

  • Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development

  • Support Social Sciences enrichment activities and university preparation programmes

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification

  • Experience teaching Psychology at secondary or post-16 level

  • Strong subject knowledge in Psychology

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills

  • Commitment to supporting student achievement and progression

Desirable

  • Experience teaching A-Level Psychology

  • Experience working within a Sixth Form or post-16 setting

  • Degree in Psychology or a related discipline

  • Ability to contribute to wider Social Sciences enrichment activities

  • Strong track record of examination success and student outcomes
