The Opportunity
We are seeking an enthusiastic and ambitious Head of Geography to lead the Geography Department at a leading school in Southampton.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Geography teacher to shape curriculum development, drive academic progress and inspire pupils to develop a deeper understanding of the world around them.
The successful candidate will combine excellent classroom practice with strong leadership skills, encouraging geographical enquiry, critical thinking and a passion for both physical and human Geography.
Key Responsibilities

Lead the development and delivery of an engaging, challenging Geography curriculum.

Teach inspiring lessons that promote curiosity, independent thinking and strong academic outcomes.

Monitor pupil progress and implement strategies to improve achievement.

Support, motivate and develop colleagues within the department.

Coordinate assessment, curriculum planning and departmental resources.

Organise fieldwork, educational visits and enrichment opportunities.

Promote high standards of teaching, learning, behaviour and inclusion.

Contribute to wider school improvement and uphold safeguarding responsibilities.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful applicant will ideally have:

A degree in Geography or a related subject and QTS, or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.

Strong subject knowledge and successful experience teaching Geography at secondary level.

Experience in curriculum planning, assessment and departmental development.

Leadership experience, or the potential to take on subject leadership responsibilities.

Excellent communication, organisation and team-working skills.

A commitment to high standards, continuous improvement and pupil wellbeing.
Experience as a Head of Geography, Subject Lead or Second in Department would be advantageous.
