Design & Technology Teacher Role in an Innovative Secondary School

About the Role

The successful candidate will teach Design & Technology across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging lessons that inspire creativity, problem-solving, and technical confidence.

Students follow an ambitious curriculum covering Product Design, Resistant Materials, engineering principles, design processes, and modern manufacturing techniques. You will support learners in developing practical workshop skills alongside creative thinking, iterative design, and evaluation, preparing them for GCSE and A-Level qualifications.

You will also contribute to curriculum development and enrichment opportunities, including STEM initiatives, design competitions, and employer engagement projects that showcase the real-world applications of Design & Technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach Design & Technology across KS3, KS4, and KS5

  • Deliver engaging practical and theory-based lessons

  • Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level examinations

  • Develop students' design, manufacturing, and evaluation skills

  • Ensure safe working practices within workshops and specialist classrooms

  • Assess progress and provide high-quality feedback

  • Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development

  • Support STEM projects, design competitions, and extracurricular activities

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Experience teaching Design & Technology at secondary level

  • Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently

  • Strong subject knowledge in Product Design, Resistant Materials, or Engineering

  • Excellent classroom and workshop management skills

Desirable

  • Experience teaching A-Level Design & Technology

  • Knowledge of CAD/CAM technologies and modern manufacturing processes

  • Experience leading STEM or engineering enrichment activities

  • A proven track record of securing strong student outcomes
