Design & Technology Teacher Role in a Comprehensive School

A successful Comprehensive School in Solihull is seeking to appoint a creative and enthusiastic Design & Technology Teacher to join its thriving Technology department from September. About the Role

The successful candidate will teach Design & Technology across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging practical and theory-based lessons that inspire creativity, technical understanding, and independent thinking.

Students study a broad curriculum covering Product Design, Resistant Materials, CAD/CAM, manufacturing processes, materials technology, sustainability, and design principles. You will prepare students for GCSE and A-Level Design & Technology qualifications while guiding them through the complete design process from research and development to prototyping and evaluation.

You will also contribute to the wider life of the department through STEM projects, design competitions, practical workshops, extracurricular clubs, and enrichment activities that encourage students to apply their skills beyond the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach Design & Technology across KS3, KS4, and KS5

  • Deliver engaging practical and theory-based lessons

  • Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level Design & Technology examinations

  • Develop students’ creativity, technical knowledge, and problem-solving skills

  • Maintain excellent workshop health and safety standards

  • Assess progress and provide high-quality, constructive feedback

  • Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development

  • Support STEM initiatives, clubs, competitions, and enrichment activities

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Experience teaching Design & Technology at secondary level

  • Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently

  • Strong subject knowledge in Product Design, Resistant Materials, or a related specialism

  • Excellent classroom and workshop management skills

Desirable

  • Experience teaching A-Level Design & Technology

  • Knowledge of CAD/CAM and digital manufacturing technologies

  • Ability to contribute to STEM enrichment activities

  • A proven track record of delivering strong student outcomes
