  • Established secondary school based in Peterborough

  • Opportunity to join a collaborative and well-supported Social Sciences department

  • Teaching opportunity for an enthusiastic Sociology specialist across KS4 and KS5

Our client is looking to appoint a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Sociology Teacher to join their secondary school in Peterborough from January. This is an exciting opportunity for a committed classroom practitioner who is passionate about helping students understand society, social relationships, cultural differences and the factors that influence human behaviour. The successful candidate will join a department that values engaging teaching, thoughtful discussion and the development of students' analytical and evaluative skills.

The school welcomes applications from experienced Sociology Teachers, Early Career Teachers and suitably qualified teachers seeking to broaden their classroom experience. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of the Sociology curriculum and the ability to present challenging concepts in an accessible and engaging manner. Experience teaching GCSE and A-Level Sociology would be particularly beneficial, as the successful applicant may contribute to provision across both key stages.

The department aims to encourage students to think critically about the world around them, question assumptions and develop well-supported arguments. The successful Sociology Teacher will therefore be expected to deliver structured lessons that combine subject knowledge with discussion, independent research, written analysis and examination practice. A commitment to inclusive teaching and the academic progress of students from different backgrounds is essential.

School Information:

The school is based in Peterborough and provides a supportive environment in which students are encouraged to develop academically, socially and personally. The leadership team places importance on high-quality teaching, consistent classroom expectations and positive relationships between staff and pupils.

The successful applicant will work alongside colleagues who value collaborative planning and the sharing of effective teaching resources. There is an emphasis on developing confident learners who can communicate clearly, approach unfamiliar ideas with curiosity and take increasing responsibility for their own progress.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to join a school that recognises the contribution of the Social Sciences to a broad and balanced curriculum. Sociology provides students with valuable opportunities to explore education, families, crime, inequality and social change, and the successful teacher will help bring these topics to life.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging Sociology lessons in line with the relevant curriculum and examination specifications.

  • Teach students at KS4 and, where required, KS5.

  • Develop students' essay-writing, analytical, evaluative and independent-learning skills.

  • Use assessment information to monitor progress and identify areas requiring additional support.

  • Prepare students thoroughly for internal assessments and external examinations.

  • Maintain positive classroom behaviour and establish high expectations for learning.

  • Work collaboratively with departmental colleagues to develop resources and improve teaching practice.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • A relevant teaching qualification, such as a PGCE, with QTS where required for the position.

  • Strong subject knowledge in Sociology.

  • The ability to deliver engaging lessons and support a range of learning needs.

  • Excellent communication, organisation and classroom-management skills.

  • Applications from experienced teachers and ECTs are welcome.

  • Legal right to work in the UK.
