Sociology Teaching Role in an All-Through Academy
A successful All-Through Academy in Slough is seeking to appoint an ambitious and knowledgeable Sociology Teacher to join its thriving Humanities and Social Sciences faculty from September. This is a full-time role within a well-regarded school that places strong emphasis on academic achievement, inclusion, and student aspiration.
Sociology is a popular and growing subject within the school, with students encouraged to think critically about society, culture, identity, education, crime, families, and social inequality.
About the Role
You will teach Sociology across Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging and intellectually stimulating lessons that develop students’ analytical, evaluative, and essay-writing skills.
Students will explore key sociological themes and debates, applying theoretical perspectives and contemporary examples to topics such as families and households, education, crime and deviance, social stratification, and research methods. You will prepare students for GCSE and A-Level examinations while fostering curiosity, discussion, and independent thought.
The successful candidate will contribute to curriculum planning, intervention strategies, and wider enrichment opportunities that promote engagement with social issues and current affairs.
Key Responsibilities
Teach Sociology across KS4 and KS5
Deliver engaging and academically rigorous lessons
Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level examinations
Develop students’ essay-writing, research, and evaluative skills
Assess student work and provide detailed, constructive feedback
Monitor progress and implement targeted intervention strategies
Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development
Support enrichment activities linked to social sciences and current affairs

Candidate Requirements
Essential Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Experience teaching Sociology at secondary or post-16 level
Ability to teach KS4 and KS5 confidently
Strong subject knowledge in Sociology
Excellent classroom management and communication skills
Desirable
Experience teaching A-Level Sociology
Experience contributing to social sciences enrichment or debating activities
Ability to support students with essay writing and examination preparation
Strong track record of securing excellent student outcomes
