CORE PURPOSE
We require a practical, reliable Caretaker to support the day-to-day operational upkeep, security, and cleanliness of our all-through campus. Operating within a supportive facilities team, the successful candidate will carry out essential maintenance, security routines, porterage duties, and statutory compliance checks to ensure a safe, functional environment for students, staff, and visitors across all key stages.
THE SCHOOL
An All-Through academy located in Slough, Berkshire. The school operates with a centralized behaviour system managed by senior leadership to maintain a calm, structured, and respectful environment across the site. The estates team works collaboratively, using digital task-logging tools to ensure maintenance requests are prioritized fairly and facilities run smoothly throughout the school day.
KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
Site Security & Access: Manage daily opening and locking-up procedures, securing perimeter gates, checking primary/secondary grounds, and setting intruder alarms.
General Maintenance & Repairs: Perform first-line general maintenance, painting, basic carpentry, plumbing repairs, and unblocking fixtures to keep classroom facilities in excellent condition.
Statutory Compliance Checks: Complete routine health and safety checks, including weekly fire alarm testing, emergency lighting checks, and water temperature monitoring (legionella flushing), recording data in digital compliance logs.
Porterage & Event Setup: Handle delivery distribution, moving furniture, and setting up main halls for assemblies, examinations, performance events, and evening community lettings.
Grounds & Exterior Upkeep: Oversee campus grounds cleanliness, ensuring walkways, play areas, and entrances remain free of hazards, litter, and adverse weather risks (salting pathways in winter).
PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: A basic health and safety or manual handling certificate is desirable. A full, clean UK driving license is advantageous.
Experience: Practical experience in caretaking, general DIY, building maintenance, or site operations, ideally within an educational or community facility setting.
Skills: Strong practical handyperson skills, self-motivation, clear communication with school staff and visitors, and a reliable, flexible working style.
