Art Teacher Role in an Outstanding Secondary School

An Outstanding Secondary School in Shropshire is seeking to appoint a creative and enthusiastic Art Teacher to join its thriving Creative Arts department from September. About the Role

The successful candidate will teach Art across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging practical and theoretical lessons that develop students’ creative skills, technical ability, and critical understanding of art and design.

Students study a broad curriculum covering drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media, photography, digital art, and art history. You will prepare students for GCSE and A-Level Art & Design qualifications while encouraging experimentation, personal expression, and independent creative development.

You will also contribute to exhibitions, gallery visits, workshops, enrichment clubs, and wider creative projects that showcase student work and inspire engagement with the visual arts beyond the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach Art across KS3, KS4, and KS5

  • Deliver engaging practical and theory-based lessons

  • Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level Art & Design examinations

  • Develop students’ creative, technical, and critical thinking skills

  • Assess progress and provide high-quality, constructive feedback

  • Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development

  • Support exhibitions, clubs, and enrichment activities

  • Foster creativity, confidence, and artistic expression

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Experience teaching Art at secondary level

  • Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently

  • Strong subject knowledge across art and design disciplines

  • Excellent classroom management and organisational skills

Desirable

  • Experience teaching A-Level Art & Design

  • Experience organising exhibitions or creative showcases

  • Ability to support digital art or photography teaching

  • A proven track record of strong student outcomes
