Art Teaching Role in an Independent School

A prestigious Independent School in Shrewsbury is seeking to appoint a talented and creative Art Teacher to join its thriving Art and Design department from September. About the Role

You will teach Art across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering inspiring lessons that nurture creativity and artistic expression.

Students engage with a broad curriculum that includes drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, mixed media, photography, and contemporary digital practices. You will support learners in developing strong practical skills while encouraging critical analysis and appreciation of historical and contemporary artists.

The successful candidate will prepare students for GCSE and A-Level Art examinations, supporting the creation of exceptional portfolios and exhibition work.

You will also contribute to the wider creative life of the school through exhibitions, competitions, gallery visits, and enrichment opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach Art across KS3, KS4, and KS5

  • Deliver engaging practical and theory-based lessons

  • Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level Art qualifications

  • Support portfolio development and exhibition projects

  • Assess student work and provide detailed, constructive feedback

  • Contribute to curriculum development and departmental initiatives

  • Organise and support creative enrichment opportunities

  • Promote artistic achievement across the school community

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification

  • Experience teaching Art at secondary level

  • Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently

  • Strong practical and theoretical knowledge of Art and Design

  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills

Desirable

  • Experience teaching A-Level Art

  • Experience working within an independent school environment

  • Ability to contribute to exhibitions and creative enrichment programmes

  • Experience supporting students with portfolio preparation for higher education
