A forward-looking primary school in Sheffield is recruiting an experienced SENCO to take responsibility for the strategic and operational management of SEND from January 2026. The SENCO will develop a clear programme of support for pupils with SEND, manage statutory processes and ensure the school meets its legal duties while maintaining a child-centred approach.

The successful SENCO will manage assessment processes, coordinate tailored interventions and work closely with Sheffield’s local SEND services to secure appropriate specialist input. You will lead training for staff, support class teachers with differentiation and maintain strong, transparent relationships with families. An induction and handover will be arranged ahead of January 2026 so the SENCO can begin the spring term confidently.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee referral pathways, carry out assessments and co-ordinate external support.
  • Develop and monitor individual plans and intervention timetables to secure progress.
  • Support and train staff to implement consistent, evidence-based inclusive practice.
  • Communicate regularly with families and with Sheffield-based multi-agency teams.
  • Prepare clear reports for leadership and governors on SEND performance and outcomes.
Person specification
  • Qualified teacher with recent experience in SEND coordination, including statutory processes.
  • Knowledgeable about the SEND Code of Practice and multi-agency working in Sheffield.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and sensitivity when working with families and vulnerable pupils.
  • Data-literate and able to measure the impact of interventions effectively.
  • Available to start January 2026 and to be based in Sheffield.
