A secondary school in South Yorkshire is seeking a capable and dependable Science Technician to provide practical support across its science department. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working behind the scenes to make sure lessons are properly resourced and laboratories are kept in good working order.
What the Position Involves
- Preparing practical equipment and materials before lessons.
- Supporting teachers with experiments and demonstrations.
- Ensuring laboratories are set up and ready for practical work.
- Cleaning, checking and maintaining scientific equipment.
- Managing stock and keeping resources readily available.
- Assisting with the safe storage and handling of chemicals.
- Reporting damaged or faulty equipment where necessary.
- Keeping work areas tidy and compliant with school procedures.
Skills & Experience
We’re looking for someone with previous Science Technician or laboratory experience who understands the practical requirements of a secondary science department. You should be confident handling equipment and chemicals, have good organisational skills and be able to manage your workload effectively. Knowledge of COSHH and laboratory health and safety is essential. Experience supporting GCSE science practicals would be particularly useful.
