CORE PURPOSE
We require an inspiring, highly analytical Physics Teacher to deliver outstanding physics instruction across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, with the opportunity to contribute to post-16 pathways. Operating within a large, vibrant mainstream comprehensive school, the successful candidate will facilitate a structured, practical-led curriculum designed to foster deep conceptual understanding of matter and energy, mathematical application, and robust scientific inquiry, preparing all pupils thoroughly for terminal GCSE Combined Science and Separate Physics public examinations.
THE SCHOOL
Our comprehensive school operates as a welcoming, community-focused secondary provider dedicated to fostering high academic aspirations, social inclusivity, and a strong passion for STEM education. The campus features specialized science blocks, newly updated physics labs with dedicated data-logging equipment, and a collaborative, cohesive science faculty. Our behaviour management framework relies on explicit classroom routines, positive reinforcement, and clear accountability, maintaining a safe, highly purposeful learning environment where pupils can confidently engage in practical physics experiments and collaborative mathematical problem-solving.
KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
Mathematical & Practical Physics Instruction: Plan, resource, and deliver high-quality physics lessons across all key stages, embedding consistent mathematical scaffolding to demystify complex formulas, vector models, and algebraic rearrangements.
Closing Scientific Attainment Gaps: Identify and target learning barriers, deploying visual logic models, physical demonstrations, and targeted literacy strategies to accelerate progress for all pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEND).
Rigorous Laboratory Leadership: Oversee practical experiments with strict adherence to CLEAPSS health and safety guidelines, teaching pupils safe manipulation of circuit components, radiological models, and mechanical apparatus.
GCSE Performance Tracking: Guide Year 11 cohorts systematically through the demands of terminal Foundation and Higher tier GCSE papers, utilizing formative test data to eliminate deep-seated physics misconceptions and maximize grade retention.
Community Pastoral Care: Fulfill full form tutor responsibilities within an established year group structure, managing daily registration, delivering pastoral curriculum units, and maintaining proactive, supportive communication with families.
PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or a recognised equivalent teaching credential, paired with a strong honours degree in Physics, Astrophysics, Engineering, or a closely related quantitative physical science discipline.
Pedagogical Capability: A proven track record or clear capacity to deliver strong progress metrics in terminal public GCSE examinations across both Combined and Separate Science pathways through structured, explicit physics pedagogy.
Inclusive & Patient Ethos: An unwavering commitment to comprehensive education, demonstrating the patience, clarity, and adaptability required to stretch high-achieving physicists while building basic mathematical confidence in pupils of all abilities.
REGIONAL CONTEXT
The Steel City & Advanced Engineering Core: Based in the historic city of Sheffield, South Yorkshire, the school capitalizes on a world-class regional identity built upon industrial heritage, metallurgy, and modern advanced manufacturing. The close proximity to the University of Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) and local clean-energy technology hubs provides rich, real-world links for mechanics, thermodynamics, and material science modules, connecting classroom physics directly to pioneering regional engineering enterprises.
Connectivity & Infrastructure: The campus benefits from excellent South Yorkshire transport infrastructure, offering straightforward road commuting via the M1 motorway, the A61, and the A57 trans-Pennine routes. Public transit links run seamlessly across the city region, utilizing extensive local bus networks and the Sheffield Supertram system, alongside Sheffield railway station, which provides frequent East Midlands Railway, Northern, and CrossCountry services connecting the school directly to Rotherham, Chesterfield, Doncaster, and Leeds.
