Are you an empathetic, experienced, and highly skilled SENCo committed to championing inclusion and ensuring every student can thrive? A high-achieving and inclusive secondary school in Taunton is seeking a dedicated SENCo to join its senior leadership structure from January 2026. This is a full-time, permanent position, offering the chance to lead and develop SEND provision in a school that places equity, care, and academic success at the heart of its mission.

The Role

As SENCo, you will have overall responsibility for shaping and delivering the school’s Special Educational Needs and Disabilities strategy, ensuring that every learner—regardless of ability or background—receives the tailored support they deserve. You will work closely with classroom teachers, pastoral leaders, and external professionals to create inclusive teaching approaches and monitor individual progress. Your duties will include coordinating Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs), leading annual reviews, and overseeing early identification and intervention strategies. You will also manage and inspire a team of experienced Teaching Assistants and Learning Mentors, ensuring that all staff are confident in implementing effective differentiation and adaptive teaching practices. In addition, you will play a pivotal role in staff training, SEND data analysis, and strategic planning, supporting the senior leadership team in maintaining the school’s excellent reputation for inclusion and wellbeing. This role would suit a compassionate leader who is proactive, reflective, and able to combine strategic oversight with day-to-day care.

The School

This Ofsted “Good with Outstanding Features” school is one of Taunton’s most respected educational institutions, known for its excellent pastoral care, academic outcomes, and commitment to the whole child. With around 1,200 students, it fosters a culture of mutual respect, resilience, and ambition. The SEND department has a dedicated suite of rooms for 1:1 interventions, sensory support, and small-group work, creating a calm and purposeful environment for students who need extra help. The leadership team strongly prioritises staff wellbeing and professional development, providing comprehensive CPD and access to external training. The school also enjoys strong relationships with the local authority and educational psychologists, ensuring that SEND practice remains evidence-based and responsive to student needs.

What We’re Looking For

  • Qualified teacher with NASENCo accreditation (or willingness to complete within two years)
  • Demonstrable experience leading SEND provision in a school setting
  • Excellent understanding of current SEND legislation and best practice
  • Strong interpersonal and organisational skills
  • A collaborative, student-centred approach that promotes inclusion and independence

Why Join?

  • A school that truly values inclusion and equality of opportunity
  • Supportive leadership and a collegial, caring atmosphere
  • Access to a highly skilled team and excellent SEND resources
  • Continuous professional development, mentoring, and leadership opportunities
  • Competitive salary and strong wellbeing support
