SENCO Role in an Exceptional Primary School

An Exceptional Primary School in Brent is seeking to appoint an experienced and inspiring SENCO to lead its SEND provision from September. About the Role

The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership for SEND across the school, ensuring that pupils with additional needs receive high-quality, personalised support that enables them to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Working closely with the Headteacher, senior leadership team, teachers, support staff, parents, and external agencies, you will oversee EHCPs, coordinate interventions, monitor pupil progress, and promote outstanding inclusive teaching across the school.

This role would suit an experienced SENCO or a passionate teacher with the National Award for SEN Coordination who is committed to creating an environment where every child can succeed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the school's SEND provision

  • Coordinate support for pupils with a wide range of additional needs

  • Oversee EHCPs, annual reviews, and statutory processes

  • Work alongside teachers to promote outstanding inclusive practice

  • Build strong relationships with parents and external agencies

  • Monitor progress and evaluate the impact of interventions

  • Deliver staff training and provide guidance on SEND strategies

  • Ensure compliance with the SEND Code of Practice and safeguarding requirements

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • National Award for SEN Coordination (or willingness to complete it where applicable)

  • Experience supporting pupils with SEND

  • Excellent knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice

  • Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills

Desirable

  • Previous experience as a SENCO

  • Experience managing EHCPs and working with external agencies

  • Proven ability to improve outcomes for pupils with SEND

  • Experience leading whole-school inclusion and staff development
