Wayman Education is seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive Primary School in Merton. This is a long-term position supporting a pupil with additional learning needs who may occasionally display challenging behaviour. The ideal candidate will be patient, understanding, and committed to helping young learners reach their full potential in a nurturing environment. If you are passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of children with special educational needs, we’d love to hear from you. This is a great opportunity for someone who genuinely wants to make a difference in a student’s day-to-day school experience.

What the role involves:

  • Providing one-to-one support to a student with special educational needs, helping them stay engaged and feel supported in lessons.
  • Building positive relationships to encourage confidence, independence, and progress.
  • Supporting the class teacher with daily activities and maintaining a calm, inclusive classroom.
  • Demonstrates understanding of various needs from mild to complex.
  • Following detailed EHCPs and working closely with the SENCO.
  • Work across EYFS to KS2.
  • Previous experience working with SEND pupils or provisions (in schools or a similar setting).
  • A calm and patient approach with the ability to build trust and rapport.
  • The right to work in the UK.
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one).
  • Two professional references.
