Wayman Education is seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented, and reliable Science Technician to join a supportive Science Department at a fantastic secondary school in Middlesbrough, starting in September 2026. As a vital part of the science team, you will prepare practical equipment, manage laboratory materials, and support teachers in delivering high-quality, practical learning across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5 (A-Level).

Key Responsibilities

  • Practical Setup: Prepare equipment, apparatus, chemical solutions, and biological materials for daily Biology, Chemistry, and Physics practical lessons.
  • Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure all prep rooms and laboratories adhere strictly to CLEAPSS, COSHH, and general health and safety standards.
  • Stock & Inventory Management: Monitor stock levels, handle chemical storage, track equipment, and assist with ordering new resources.
  • Maintenance & Cleaning: Inspect, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment (e.g., microscopes, Bunsen burners, glassware) to ensure safe operational use.
  • Classroom Assistance: Support teaching staff during practical demonstrations and required A-Level assessments where appropriate.

Candidate Requirements

  • Background: A qualification in Science (A-Level, BTEC, or Degree level) or equivalent technical experience.
  • Experience: Prior experience working as a Science Technician within a school, college, or laboratory setting is highly advantageous.
  • Safety Knowledge: Familiarity with COSHH, CLEAPSS regulations, and safe chemical handling/disposal practices.
  • Key Skills: Strong organizational and time-management skills, good communication, and a proactive, team-focused approach.
  • Safeguarding: An Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
