Are you a practical, organised and enthusiastic Science Technician who enjoys supporting teachers and helping students get the most from their science education?

We are recruiting on behalf of a welcoming and ambitious secondary school in Haringey that is committed to providing students with an engaging, stimulating and well‑resourced learning environment. You will join a supportive Science Department, working closely with teaching staff to ensure practical lessons, experiments and demonstrations are prepared safely and effectively.

The Role

As a Science Technician, you will play an important role in supporting the smooth delivery of practical Science lessons across the school. You will help teachers prepare equipment and resources, maintain laboratory facilities and ensure all practical activities meet appropriate health and safety standards.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and setting up equipment, chemicals, materials and practical resources for Science lessons.
  • Supporting teachers with demonstrations, experiments and practical activities.
  • Ensuring laboratories, preparation areas and equipment are clean, safe and ready for use.
  • Maintaining, checking and safely storing scientific equipment and resources.
  • Monitoring stock levels and ordering or requesting materials when required.
  • Assisting with the safe handling, storage and disposal of chemicals and other laboratory materials.
  • Carrying out routine checks and reporting faulty or damaged equipment promptly.
  • Supporting teachers and students during practical activities where appropriate.
  • Maintaining accurate records relating to equipment, stock, chemicals, maintenance and health and safety.
  • Ensuring practical work is carried out in accordance with school procedures, COSHH requirements and relevant health and safety guidance.
  • Contributing to the organisation and development of practical resources across the Science Department.
  • Providing general technical and practical support to the wider department as required.

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience working as a Science Technician, Laboratory Technician or in a similar practical role is desirable.
  • A relevant Science qualification or practical experience within a scientific or laboratory environment.
  • Good knowledge of laboratory equipment, materials and practical procedures.
  • An understanding of Health & Safety, COSHH and safe laboratory working practices.
  • Excellent organisational skills and strong attention to detail.
  • The ability to prepare and manage resources efficiently within a busy school environment.
  • A practical, flexible and proactive approach to problem‑solving.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with teachers, support staff and students.
  • The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a wider team.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
