About the School:

We are seeking to appoint a reliable, practical, and hardworking School Caretaker on behalf of a welcoming primary school in Darlington. The school prides itself on maintaining a safe, clean, and warm learning environment for its pupils and staff. Joining a dedicated site team, you will play an essential role in the daily operations, safety, and security of the entire school estate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a primary keyholder, managing the secure opening and closing of the school buildings and grounds.
  • Carry out routine building maintenance, minor plumbing, joinery tasks, and DIY repairs across the site.
  • Monitor, operate, and log checks on the school heating, lighting, and security systems.
  • Oversee health and safety compliance, including regular fire alarm testing, water hygiene checks, and clear emergency egress.
  • Manage external contractors on-site and assist with cleaning duties, litter picking, gritting in winter, and heavy lifting/moving of furniture.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in caretaking, site management, facilities, or a skilled trade (plumbing, carpentry, electrical, or general building maintenance).
  • Strong understanding of health and safety regulations and COSHH guidelines.
  • Ability to work independently, use initiative, and manage a varied daily workload.
