Sociology Teacher
You would be joining a successful Social Sciences department where Sociology is taught as an engaging and thought-provoking subject. The department encourages students to look beyond simple explanations and develop the ability to analyse social issues using evidence, theory and different perspectives.
At GCSE, students explore areas such as families, education, crime and deviance, social stratification, culture and identity. Lessons encourage students to consider how social factors influence people's experiences and to develop the analytical and evaluative skills required for successful examination performance.
At A-Level, students are challenged to engage with more complex sociological theories and contemporary debates. They examine areas including research methods, education, families, beliefs, crime, social stratification and global developments. Students are encouraged to construct balanced arguments, evaluate different perspectives and support their ideas with appropriate sociological evidence.
The department places considerable emphasis on discussion and independent thinking. Students are encouraged to engage with current affairs and consider how contemporary events can be understood through different sociological perspectives.
There are also opportunities for students to take part in university outreach, guest speaker sessions, debates, conferences and wider Social Sciences enrichment. The successful teacher will be encouraged to contribute to these activities and help students see how Sociology connects with subjects such as Politics, Psychology, History and Economics.
You will work alongside experienced colleagues in a collaborative department where resources, planning and assessment strategies are shared. The school provides regular CPD and supports teachers who wish to develop additional responsibilities or progress into leadership.
