We are seeking an inspirational, strategic, and highly committed Head of Geography to lead the successful faculty at a highly regarded secondary academy in the affluent Richmond area of South West London. This is a full-time, permanent position starting in January 2026.
The successful applicant will be an outstanding Geography leader ready to manage a team of specialists and oversee the curriculum, teaching standards, and student progress across all key stages. You will be responsible for driving departmental improvement, managing resources (including fieldwork budgets), and ensuring the delivery of consistently high-quality teaching that secures excellent results at GCSE and A-Level.
This significant leadership role comes with a substantial Teaching and Learning Responsibility (TLR) payment appropriate for a Head of Department. To attract the best talent, we also offer a Recruitment and Retention (R&R) Allowance of £2,000 per annum. This generous package recognizes both the leadership duties and the market demand for outstanding Geography specialists.

We Are Looking For:
- A qualified teacher with QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) and a degree in Geography or a related field.
- A proven track record of successfully leading or significantly contributing to the leadership of a Geography department.
- Expertise in curriculum design, assessment, and data analysis to drive improvement across all key stages.
- A clear strategic vision for developing global literacy and academic excellence.
- The ability to inspire, mentor, and line-manage a team of specialist teachers.
Salary and Benefits:
- Main Pay Scale/Upper Pay Scale (MPS/UPS) for Teachers. The base salary will be paid according to experience within the statutory Outer London Pay Scale (The Outer London Main Pay Range minimum is approximately £37,870 as of September 2025).
- A Teaching and Learning Responsibility (TLR) payment (The specific amount will be confirmed based on the size and complexity of the department, typically falling within the TLR 2a/2b band, ranging from approximately £3,527 to £8,611 per annum for 2025/2026).
- A fixed Recruitment and Retention (R&R) Allowance of £2,000 per annum.
