Job Overview
Criminology has seen significant student growth within the school's Sixth Form. The successful candidate will deliver the WJEC Level 3 Applied Diploma in Criminology across Key Stage 5, alongside introductory modules in Sociology or Law depending on subject background.
Working closely with Social Science colleagues, you will guide students through key units including Changing Awareness of Crime, Criminological Theories, Crime Scene to Courtroom, and Crime and Punishment. This is a full-time, permanent position.
Key Responsibilities

Teach high-impact Level 3 Applied Diploma in Criminology lessons across Key Stage 5

Guide pupils through both controlled internal assessments (NEA) and external written examinations

Develop students' analytical evaluation of criminal justice systems, law enforcement policies, and forensic evidence

Mentor Sixth Form pupils applying for university courses in Criminology, Policing, Law, and Forensic Psychology

Organize educational visits, such as court visits, mock trial competitions, and criminology guest lectures

Fulfill pastoral responsibilities as a Sixth Form Tutor, supporting pupil tracking, attendance, and UCAS references

Collaborate with department colleagues to maintain up-to-date assessment materials and exemplar portfolios

Candidate Requirements

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or recognized UK teaching credentials (PGCE / SCITT / QTLS)

Honors degree in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Law, Sociology, or a related social science discipline

Proven track record (or clear potential during training) for delivering strong Level 3 Criminology or Social Science outcomes

Good familiarity with WJEC Level 3 Criminology specifications and internal moderation processes

Superb classroom management, essay mentoring, and communication skills
