A high-achieving and academically selective grammar school in Reading is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Geography Teacher to join its successful Humanities department. This is an exciting opportunity to teach motivated and high-attaining students within a supportive and ambitious environment.

Working closely with the Head of Department and wider teaching team, the successful candidate will deliver engaging and challenging Geography lessons, contribute to curriculum development, and support students in achieving excellent academic outcomes at KS3, KS4, and KS5.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teaching & Learning
    • Plan and deliver high-quality Geography lessons across KS3–KS5, catering to a range of abilities within a selective setting.
    • Inspire students to develop a deep understanding of physical and human geography.
    • Use a variety of teaching strategies to challenge and extend high-achieving learners.
    • Assess, monitor, and track student progress, providing timely and effective feedback.
    • Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level examinations, ensuring excellent outcomes.
  • Curriculum & Development
    • Contribute to the development and enrichment of the Geography curriculum.
    • Incorporate current geographical issues and fieldwork opportunities into teaching.
    • Support the development of resources that reflect best practice and academic rigour.
    • Engage in departmental planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Student Support & Pastoral Care
    • Act as a form tutor, supporting students’ academic progress and wellbeing.
    • Build positive relationships with students, encouraging independence and curiosity.
    • Monitor attendance and behaviour in line with school policies.
    • Communicate effectively with parents and carers regarding student progress.
  • Assessment & Administration
    • Maintain accurate records of student attainment and progress.
    • Contribute to reporting, parents’ evenings, and school assessment processes.
    • Support examination preparation, moderation, and marking where required.
  • Enrichment & Wider School Contribution
    • Contribute to extracurricular activities such as Geography clubs, trips, and fieldwork.
    • Support whole-school initiatives and events.
    • Engage in ongoing professional development and training.
Person Specification
  • Essential
    • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
    • Degree in Geography or a related subject.
    • Experience teaching Geography at secondary level (KS3–KS5 desirable).
    • Strong subject knowledge and passion for Geography.
    • Excellent classroom management and organisational skills.
  • Desirable
    • Experience teaching A-Level Geography.
    • Experience in a high-performing or selective school environment.
    • Ability to contribute to fieldwork and enrichment programmes.
