A strong finance function plays an important part in keeping a successful school moving forward. An Outstanding secondary school in Reading is looking to appoint an experienced Finance Officer to join its business support team on a full-time, permanent basis from September 2026.

This is a varied position offering responsibility across the school's day-to-day financial administration, with the opportunity to work closely with senior colleagues and contribute to effective financial planning.

The Role

You'll support the smooth running of the school's finance function, with responsibilities including:

  • Processing invoices, purchase orders and supplier payments

  • Monitoring expenditure against departmental budgets

  • Completing bank and financial reconciliations

  • Supporting monthly management accounts and financial reporting

  • Assisting with budget preparation and forecasting

  • Managing income from trips, clubs and other school activities

  • Supporting payroll and pension administration

  • Maintaining accurate financial records and audit documentation

  • Liaising with suppliers and resolving payment queries

  • Ensuring financial procedures and controls are followed

About You

The school is looking for a finance professional with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.

Previous experience within a school, academy or education setting would be advantageous, although candidates with relevant finance experience from the commercial, charity or public sectors are encouraged to apply.

You'll need strong Excel skills, excellent numerical ability and a professional approach to confidential information.
