The Role
An oversubscribed Secondary Academy in Reading is seeking a professional, hands-on, and highly organized Design & Technology Teacher to join their experienced creative arts and engineering team. This position is ideal for an educator who loves working in workshop environments and is passionate about product design, CAD/CAM systems, and material manipulation.
The successful candidate will teach across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5, guiding students through structural design portfolios, practical woodworking/metalworking fabrication, and automated manufacturing theory. Your day-to-day duties will include leading safe machinery sessions, keeping detailed digital portfolio logs, tracking material inventories, and ensuring the absolute safety of all students in compliance with DATA guidelines.
You will maintain a focused, productive workshop atmosphere where pupils treat technical equipment with respect. Exceptional organizational skills and an eye for safety are essential for managing complex practical rotations.

Requirements
- A recognized teaching qualification (PGCE, QTS, or equivalent) with a specialization in Design & Technology or a related field
- Proven experience teaching DT up to GCSE and A-Level specifications
- Up-to-date knowledge of workshop health and safety legislation (DATA certification is highly advantageous)
- Good IT literacy, with confidence using CAD/CAM design software
- Excellent communication skills and a highly structured approach to classroom safety
