Job Overview
Working under the direction of the School Business Manager, the Caretaker will take day-to-day responsibility for site security, general maintenance, porterage, and ensuring the school environment is safe, clean, and fully operational for pupils and staff. This is a full-time, permanent role.
Key Responsibilities
- Opening and closing the school site, managing daily security routines, alarm settings, and gate access
- Performing routine minor repairs, painting, woodwork, and general day-to-day DIY tasks around the buildings
- Carrying out statutory weekly and monthly compliance checks, including fire alarm tests and water temperature monitoring
- Managing site porterage, moving furniture, setting up the main hall for assemblies and events, and handling deliveries
- Supervising cleaning standards, managing waste disposal, and keeping outdoor areas and pathways clean and safe
- Reporting major maintenance issues to senior management and liaising with external contractors on-site
