An Outstanding primary school in Reading, Berkshire is looking to appoint an experienced Attendance Officer to join its support team from September 2026. This is an important role within the school, focused on improving attendance, identifying concerns at an early stage and working with families to help remove barriers to regular school attendance.

You’ll work closely with school leaders, pastoral staff and parents to monitor attendance, address persistent absence and ensure appropriate support is put in place.

The Role

  • Monitoring daily attendance and punctuality
  • Following up unexplained and persistent absence
  • Contacting parents and carers regarding attendance concerns
  • Identifying patterns and trends in attendance data
  • Supporting attendance interventions and improvement plans
  • Maintaining accurate attendance records
  • Preparing attendance reports for senior leaders
  • Working closely with pastoral and safeguarding teams
  • Liaising with external agencies where appropriate
  • Supporting the school with attendance policies and statutory requirements

About You

The ideal candidate will be organised, approachable and confident working with families. Previous experience as an Attendance Officer or within school administration, pastoral support or safeguarding would be advantageous. You’ll need excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to handle sensitive information professionally. Confidence when having potentially challenging conversations with parents and carers is also important.

Salary & Benefits
