Location: East Riding of Yorkshire

Are you an organised, approachable and confident School Receptionist who knows how to keep a busy school office running smoothly? Your next opportunity could be right here!

A welcoming and well-established secondary school in East Riding of Yorkshire is looking for an experienced School Receptionist to join its administrative team. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced educational environment and takes pride in providing an outstanding service to pupils, parents, staff and visitors.

As the first point of contact for the school, you'll play an important role in creating a professional and welcoming atmosphere while ensuring the reception area operates efficiently throughout the school day. From managing enquiries to supporting attendance and safeguarding procedures, you'll be a key part of the team that keeps everything running behind the scenes!

What Will Your Day Look Like?

No two days are exactly the same in a busy secondary school office! You'll need to be adaptable, organised and ready to take on a variety of responsibilities, including:

  • Managing a busy school reception – welcoming visitors, parents, pupils and external professionals in a friendly and professional manner.

  • Handling calls and enquiries – responding to telephone calls and emails efficiently, directing queries to the appropriate members of staff.

  • Maintaining accurate pupil information – updating records and using the school's management information system to ensure data remains accurate and up to date.

  • Supporting attendance administration – recording absences, updating attendance information and escalating concerns where appropriate.

  • Putting safeguarding first – following school procedures, monitoring visitor sign-in systems and ensuring the correct protocols are followed at all times.

  • Providing administrative support – assisting teaching staff, the senior leadership team and colleagues with the day-to-day demands of the school office.

  • Keeping everything organised – prioritising tasks, maintaining accurate documentation and helping the reception area run efficiently, even during the busiest periods.

What Makes You the Right Fit?

We're looking for someone who brings confidence, professionalism and a positive attitude to the role, alongside the experience needed to manage the demands of a secondary school environment.

You’ll ideally have:

  • Previous experience in a school-based reception or administrative role – essential.

  • Experience using school management systems such as SIMS, Arbor or similar.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to deal with a wide range of enquiries.

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy office.

  • A calm, professional and adaptable approach, particularly when handling challenging or time-sensitive situations.

  • A good understanding of confidentiality, safeguarding and school office procedures.

  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or a willingness to obtain one.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This is a fantastic opportunity to bring your existing school administration experience to a supportive secondary school where your contribution will help make a difference every day.

You’ll be joining a team that relies on an efficient, well‑organised reception to support pupils, staff and the wider school community. If you enjoy being the person others can depend on, thrive in a varied working environment and want to continue developing your experience within education, this could be an excellent next move.
